How to use SEO to optimize your content? By Nick Stamoulis When it comes to search engine optimization, or SEO, content should be considered the cornerstone. After all, your content will draw your audience to your brand, whether through them visiting your site themselves or connecting them to your site through an internet search. To take full advantage of this, you should implement an SEO plan. A key part of this plan is making sure your content is optimized. So, how do you make sure your content is well optimized? Here are some tips: Research keywords thoughtfully More than a decade ago, people would research a long list of keywords and try to use all of them in their content. A lot of this has to do with how the search algorithm is written. Today, algorithms are much more efficient and don't need to be so strict on keywords. Keyword research is about finding the best keywords that connect your audience with your page. You only need one or two keywords on each page, and even that may stretch it. The list should be conservative and you should check it manually to ensure only the best
choices are included. Naturally Write Content First When it comes to search engines, their first priority is to ensure that their customers (the people who perform searches or use search engines in any way) are happy. They will be happy
if their users are associated with the right content. For you, this means your content needs to be written naturally. If your content is filled with keywords, it will read unnaturally and turn readers off. According to Google Webmaster Guidelines, keyword stuffing is not only detrimental to usability, but it can also lead to penalties. The structure of the content is also important at this stage. Arrange your content so it's easy to read and understand. This includes using short paragraphs, headings, and lists. If your content is well organized and easy to read, people are more likely to stick with it. Make sure your title is descriptive and well-written. You don’t want to forget about the visuals, either. Images, infographics, and videos are great ways to break up text and make your content more engaging. People are more likely to share visual content. Google also favors websites that include images and videos in search results. Sprinkle keywords naturally After writing the content, now it’s time to see how the keywords are used. First, check that your content actually contains organic keywords. There's a good chance you do. If the keywords are already in the content, you don’t want to add them again. More is not better. If your content is well written, the algorithm can tell what your content is and if relevant, the algorithm will return your content in search engines. In fact, when the content is well written, you will find that you will start to get returned for keywords that you may not be targeting. If the content doesn't have the 1-2 keywords you carefully picked for the page, feel free to find a place to add it, as long as it's organic. It's okay to add a sentence or two just so you can add them in, but you don't want to manipulate your content too much, especially when you do that it no longer reads naturally. By following these simple tips, you can create content that is SEO-friendly and user-friendly. Creating great content is the first step to increasing website traffic. Once you have traffic, you can start working on other aspects of SEO, such as link building and social media.
